Full course description

This course, designed for the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), Speech Language Pathologist Assistants (SLP-A), educators, and parents, provides information regarding the implementation of Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) and Speech Generating Devices (SGD’s).  The course includes a review of AAC terminology, introduces the participant to a three step approach to implementation, provides a discussion of several frameworks for implementation, highlights the importance of developing four user communication competencies, discusses the importance of developing partner skills using the AAC system/SGD, and provides  population specific considerations for implementation.  The goal of this course is to increase the participant’s knowledge and comfort level when supporting individuals who use AAC/SGD’s.
